Our Home New Year’s Resolutions

Are you trying to brainstorm an attainable New Year’s resolution? Instead of committing to a crazy diet, you can do something to help improve your home! We have a few suggestions to help your home feel cozier without breaking the bank.

Read on for some of our suggestions for New Year’s resolutions!

Start Spring Cleaning Early

You don’t need to wait until the weather gets warmer to start getting rid of clutter! Most people acquire a lot of stuff in a year, so it’s important to sort through your things before they make your house look chaotic and dirty.

We suggest taking it one room at a time and sorting through what is necessary versus what can go. Separate anything that you don’t love by what can be donated versus what can be disposed of. Even better, try upcycling any older items into something new to reduce waste!

Check for Safety

While your home may look beautiful after getting rid of eyesores, homeowners should still check for invisible toxins.

We first suggest that you check your home for radon, a colorless and odorless gas that causes lung cancer and leads to thousands of deaths per year [1]. Test kits cost as little as $20 at most local hardware stores, making it easy to check the radon levels in your home.

Similarly, its important to install a carbon monoxide detector as well as a fire detector. It is always better to be safe than sorry!

Think Greener

One great way to cut your energy bills while practicing environmentally friendly habits is to reduce unnecessary energy usage in your home. Simple things like turning lights off when you leave a room, using LED light bulbs instead of incandescent ones, turning off power strips that aren’t in use or letting some clothes air-dry can make a big difference in your monthly energy usage.

Create a Family Schedule

Set up a daily, weekly and monthly routine for you and your family to follow. This will help keep your home clean and under control. For example, daily tasks might include loading the dishwasher every night or putting dirty clothes in the hamper. For weekly cleaning, consider putting your supplies in a portable container that is easy to bring from room to room.

Enlist your family for help so you can divide jobs equally and get everything done quickly! With extra help, you can spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying the activities you love.

Spice Things Up a Little

The new year is a great time to vamp up any room in your home! Little details like accent pillows, house plants or a colorful rug can add an extra pop to your home. Even just rearranging your furniture can give any room a new feel!

These easy tips can help you make your home feel brand new while improving energy efficiency and safety. From all of us here at Momentum Home, we wish you a Happy New Year!
